DIY | WIRE LOVE / NAME BRACELET WITH TASSEL
I was rearranging my workspace the other day, and as I was placing past jewelry supplies into their proper cubbies, I realized that I do not reuse old materials as much as I would like. So, I challenged myself to come up with a DIY that used only materials that I already owned and add something to my arm party that I know would be on daily rotation. I wear my DIY Love Ring almost everyday, and decided I would make a bracelet inspired by it. You can write 'love, your name, or any inspirational word. Full tutorial after the break...
(Arm Party: Bow Cuff, Rhinestone Cuff, and Nail Bracelet)
Materials:
- 22 to 26 gauge wire (here)
- thin gold chain
- end cap (here)
- ring clasp (here)
- 5 small jump rings
- round nose pliers (here)
- flat nose pliers (here)
- suede strips(here)
- sewing thread
- e6000
- wire cutter (here)
- pen and paper
Steps:
1. Write your word or name in cursive (making sure the length is shorter than the top side of your wrist). The trick is to not pick up your hand when writing this, so all the letters are connected in one continuous line.
2. See steps 2 through 8 of the DIY Love Ring (here) for tips on how to replicate your word using the flat nose and round nose pliers.
3. When the word is finished, use your round nose pliers and add a little loop to the beginning and end of the word. Cut excess.
4. This part gets a little mathmatical. Measure the circumference of your wrist. Take that number and subtract the length of the wire word. Now divide that number by two. This will give you the length you need to cut your chain. Cut 2 of this length.
5. Add a jump ring to each end of the wire word and attach the cut chain as well. (Here is a great video on how to open and close the jump rings properly).
6. Then, one end of the chain add a ring clasp and jump ring, and on the other end, add just a jump ring. And you are finished, unless you want the optional tassel.
7. FOR THE OPTIONAL TASSEL: Cut suede strips about 1" long. The amount depends on how big your end cap is. Cut a few, then bundle them and insert into the end cap. They should fit very snugly inside.
8. Once your bundle is perfect for the end cap, tie together at the top using sewing thread. I wrapped it a couple times, before knotting off for extra security.
9. Add a dab of e6000 inside the end cap. Insert the bundled suede strips inside to create a tassel.
10. Attach the tassel to the word portion of the bracelet or near the closure using a jump ring
