DIY Spray Painted Tee

DIY Spray Painted Tee

'Kiss the boys and make them die'
All I've been wearing lately is jeans, tees, and layers of jackets because its been so cold.
So I thought why not make a fun, bold tee.

                                                                                          You will need:
  • a plain t-shirt
  • spray paint ( look for more expensive oil based paints, cheaper ones will fade when you wash the shirt. Also only wash in COLD water)
  • book contact/cover/adhesive
  • a cutting mat and knife
  • ruler
  • glue
  • paper or newspaper
  • the image you want to transfer to a tee.
Tutorial below.
1. Reverse the image and glue it to the back of the contact. (Contact will work a lot better than just paper because when you spray the paint the paper will lift. The contact sticks to the shirt pretty much eliminating any leakage leaving clean crisp letters.)
2. Cut the letters out. This is now your stencil. Keep the letters O, A, and D and cut the insides out last so you don't lose them.
3. Peal off the backing of the contact and transfer to the t-shirt. Its easier if you do it bit by bit cutting away the backing as you go. If you peel it all off at once it all sticks together and you will rip your stencil.
4. Cover the rest of the t-shirt with scrap paper or newspaper, also add a sheet of paper between the front and back of the shirt so the paint does not leak through to the back.
5. Spray the paint on in layers letting it dry in between.
6. Once the paint is dark enough leave to fully dry. Touch the contact to test, its hard to wait when you want to peel it off to see your work. If you try and peel the contact off while the paint is still wet it can smudge or wipe onto the other parts of the shirt.
7. Peel the contact off cutting it as you go.
8. Leave the shirt to dry over night and your done.

You can keep the shirt as is or cut the sleeves and roll them up, cut the neck, add studs, add colour etc.
